RALEIGH, N.C. — Just in time for summer, Dorothea Dix Park has started planting their popular sunflower field.

On Wednesday, the City of Raleigh tweeted photos of their land management staff planting thousands of sunflower seeds.

According to their website, they planted nearly 200,000 seeds, weighing roughly 25 pounds total.

Fields are expected to bloom by mid-July, drawing thousands of smiling faces from across the Triangle.

The Sunflower Field will be located off Hunt Drive near the former soccer fields and the historic cemetery.

Weekday Sunflower Parking will be available in gravel lot off Hunt Drive and in the parking lot near the Magnolia Room off Umstead Drive.
