Activate Good is hosting its annual month of service in honor of those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic,

The non-profit works to connect people across the Triangle to volunteer opportunities.

This year's events aim to bring the Triangle community together to participate in safe, in-person or remote volunteer opportunities.

Activate Good believes that this month of service can help bring people together during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We believe we all have a responsibility to work towards a better world. That’s why Activate Good improves our community through people-powered projects for good," a statement from the nonprofit said.

One of the many volunteer opportunities in the Triangle this month is the Community Reunion Mural project in downtown Raleigh. The mural, designed by professional artists, is aimed to bring people together and raise moral.

The mural will be revealed on Sept. 12. Volunteers must register online.

Instead of hosting an in-person commemoration event to conclude the annual day of service, Active Good will release a video on Sept. 11 across their social media platforms that will show community members speaking about how they plan to contribute to positive change.

Some volunteer opportunities may require proof of vaccinations to participate.

Volunteer events on Sept. 11:
  • Help paint a community mural in downtown Raleigh aimed and bringing people together.
  • Volunteers are needed at TROSA Thrift Store in Durham. People will sort and process donations at multiple locations on Saturday.
