Wake County animal shelter reduces adoption fees for Valentine's Day

The Wake County Animal Center has reduced its adoption fees ahead of Valentine's Day.

The adoption special runs Feb. 11 through Feb. 17, when dogs are $25 and cats are name-your-price.

According to the shelter, there are 48 dogs and 25 cats that currently need forever homes.

Although the Wake County shelter did not euthanize any animals for space in 2019, thousands are killed in North Carolina shelters each year due to overcrowding and overpopulation.

The Wake County Animal Center is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh. The shelter is open for adoptions daily from noon to 6 p.m.

How to help

There are some ways to help decrease the number of animals euthanized in North Carolina.

• Adopt pets from shelters or rescue organizations rather than from breeders or pet stores that use breeders.
• Spay and neuter your dogs and cats to help reduce overpopulation.
• Keep pets on a leash or in a fence when outdoors.
