RALEIGH, N.C. — A downtown Raleigh restaurant with one of the best views in town has once again closed its doors, but the owner says it is only temporary.
Boylan Bridge Brewpub closed its doors Saturday night, owner Andrew Leager said. The restaurant reopened in May after being closed for more than a year after a wall collapsed. Despite a strong opening month, Leager said business began to drop off in July, around the time West Hargett Street saw closures due to the construction of the multi-use development The Dillon.

"We just can't keep money losing table service that we've had," Leager said. "We are intending to reboot."

While the pub will still host several previously booked private holiday parties, Leager doesn't anticipate the restaurant reopening until sometime early next year.

With six more years left on his lease, Leager said he plans to use the break to focus on marketing efforts, including a lighted sign on the roof, and a new logo on the front door.

The pub is also planning to host beer dinners and a Groupon for a brewery and building tour. The tour will also cover Leager's workstation under the restaurant, which was damaged heavily in February 2016 when water pressure from a leaky sprinkler caused a wall to collapse.

"People want to see where the wall fell," Leager said.

Leager, a cabinet maker, uses the downstairs space to work on two other businesses - Hargett Hill Distillery and Boylan Barrelworks.

Repairs to Boylan structure were extensive

Crews worked for more than a year putting in a new sprinkler system, replacing a wall and repairing a caved in roof and other damage.

Leager, a cabinet maker, has a special projects and workstation underneath the restaurant. That space is where the wall collapsed and destroyed thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
